A tip or two for landlords and Overberg visitors this #fireseason.

Is the Fire Service’s number up in your home, so that visitors know who to call if they see smoke?

Small cooking fires have already resulted in large veldfires in the last few weeks. That’s why the guidelines are very clear – to not make cooking fires in the open on high fire danger days.” (We post the daily Fire Danger Index on our Facebook page).

We recommend that you do not go for a hike on a Red Fire Danger Index day, as veldfires will move quickly in hot, dry and windy weather.

It’s also not a good idea to discard braai coals outside into dry or drying vegetation, especially not on a hot and windy day.
