APPLICATION FOR APPROVAL OF NOTICE BOARDS, ADVERTISING BOARDS AND BILLBOARDS
The Cape Agulhas Municipality hereby informs all property owners, businesses, estate agencies, advertising companies, tourism operators and other interested parties that all notice boards, advertising boards, billboards and similar structures erected within the Cape Agulhas Municipal area are required to obtain the necessary municipal approval prior to being erected, where such approval is required in terms of applicable municipal legislation and policies.
This requirement includes, but is not limited to, boards erected or displayed by business owners/property owners/estate agencies for the purposes of advertising properties for sale or rental.
Owners or persons responsible for existing boards that have been erected without the required approval from the Cape Agulhas Municipality are hereby urged to submit an application for approval to the Building Control Department, Cape Agulhas Municipality.
A period of 30 (thirty) days from the date of publication of this notice is hereby afforded to owners/persons responsible for such boards to submit the necessary application for approval.
Applicants are encouraged to ensure that all required information and supporting documentation accompany their applications to facilitate the assessment process.
Owners or persons responsible for boards that do not have the required municipal approval are urged to regularise their boards within the above-mentioned 30-day period.
Should an owner or responsible person fail to submit an application within the prescribed period, or should a board remain in place without the required municipal approval, the Municipality may take the appropriate enforcement action in terms of the applicable legislation and municipal by-laws.
Such enforcement action may include the removal of unauthorised boards and the issuing of penalties or fines, where authorised by the applicable legislation.
The Municipality therefore strongly encourages all affected parties to make the necessary application within the 30-day period to avoid possible enforcement action.
Please note that applications relating specifically to tourism boards and tourism-related signage (brown boards) must be directed to the Cape Agulhas Municipality Tourism Department for consideration and approval in accordance with the applicable municipal requirements.
The purpose of this notice is to ensure that all advertising and notice boards within the municipal area are properly authorized, appropriately located and compliant with the applicable municipal requirements.
The Municipality encourages all property owners, businesses and other affected parties to cooperate with the Municipality in regularizing existing boards and ensuring that future boards are approved before erection or display.
