Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) Programme for Chefs

📢 Invitation to enrol for the Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) programme for chefs in KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape provinces.

The Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) Programme is a government-supported initiative that enables experienced workers to obtain a nationally recognised Chefs Occupational Qualification (SAQA ID 101697) by formally recognising the skills and knowledge they have gained through years of practical work experience.

Rather than requiring individuals to complete a traditional apprenticeship, the programme assesses their existing competencies against national occupational standards and, where necessary, identifies any skills gaps before they undertake a trade test.

ARPL provides a valuable pathway for skilled chefs who have acquired their expertise through workplace experience or informal learning to become certified, improving their employability, career progression, and earning potential while helping South Africa address the growing demand for qualified artisans across various industries.

Closing date for submission of applications is the 31st July 2026.

Applications can be sent by email to: rplrecruitment@tourism.gov.za
