Description
De Heer se Bos (The Lord’s Forest) is the location of Elim’s first burial ground. Already in 1825 the land was marked out for a burial ground and the land destined for it was leveled in 1827. At the same time, a road to it was built and planted with oak trees. Rebekka Botha, a six-year-old child, was buried there as the first member of the Elim congregation on 20 September 1827 after being baptized a few days earlier. She told her mother several times: “Mother, I won’t stay here much longer. I am going away to my Savior.”
