Struisbaai Awarded Prestigious Blue Flag Status for 2024/25 Season
We are proud to announce that Struisbaai Beach has been officially awarded the Blue Flag status for the 2024/25 season. This internationally recognised honour was granted for excellence in safety, amenities, cleanliness, and environmental standards. The award ceremony took place on 28 October 2024 at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, where Executive Mayor Cllr. Raymond Ross received the prestigious award on behalf of the Municipality.
The Blue Flag season will run from 1 December 2024 to 31 January 2025, and Struisbaai will continue to uphold the rigorous standards of water quality, public safety, and facility maintenance throughout the season. Achieving Blue Flag status demonstrates the municipality’s commitment to creating and maintaining a sustainable, safe, and clean environment for both residents and visitors.
About the Blue Flag Program:
The Blue Flag is one of the world’s most prestigious eco-labels, awarded to beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators. To qualify, beaches must meet strict criteria in environmental management, education, safety, and accessibility. There are over 4,500 Blue Flag sites in more than 45 countries, all working toward global sustainability goals and environmental preservation.
In South Africa, the Blue Flag program has been operational since 2001, with over 18 coastal municipalities proudly participating. The program campaigns against environmental threats, pollution, and inequalities, and supports the sustainable management of coastal resources.
We congratulate all involved in maintaining the high standards required to achieve this remarkable recognition and look forward to welcoming visitors to Struisbaai this summer.
Stay tuned for updates and join us in celebrating Struisbaai’s continued commitment to environmental sustainability.
